KANSAS CITY, KS – In a significant move to deepen U.S.-Africa economic partnerships, Ms. Sarah Bhoroma, Head of Mission at the Zimbabwe Embassy in Washington, D.C., held pivotal talks with the Zambia Diaspora Chamber of Commerce (ZDCC) during a recent visit to Kansas. The discussions set the stage for upcoming ambassador-level dialogue and unveiled major plans for future collaboration.

The high-level meeting, described by both parties as “highly constructive and forward-looking,” focused on identifying synergies in renewable energy, smart city development, and neighborhood business initiatives. Significantly, ZDCC President Freud Musanu extended a formal invitation to the Zimbabwe Embassy to participate in the 2026 International Business Exchange Conference (IBEx), a major biennial event led by the diaspora organization.

Mr. Musanu confirmed that high-level negotiations are currently underway to select a suitable and affordable venue for IBEx 2026, with special consideration for travel accessibility for delegates coming from Africa to the Americas. The specific location will be announced in the coming months.

“This meeting reaffirms the critical role of diaspora engagement in fostering robust international partnerships,” said Mr. Musanu. “We are not only facilitating deeper Zimbabwe-Zambia-U.S. collaboration but also creating meaningful platforms like IBEx 2026 where government officials, investors, and developers can convene to transform dialogue into tangible projects.”

The Head of Mission’s visit included programs at the University of Kansas, where she encouraged U.S. businesses to look toward Zimbabwe as a strategic partner amid global economic shifts. Her meeting with the ZDCC has initiated a structured pathway toward ambassador-level discussions, reinforcing the role of diaspora institutions in shaping Africa’s global economic narrative.

Both parties emphasized their commitment to advancing the ZDCC’s “Pathway to 2030” vision, which aims to drive over $1 Billion in investments into transformative African projects. The Zimbabwe delegation showed particular interest in the chamber’s renewable energy and smart city initiatives, which are being developed through international consortiums.

This engagement underscores a growing trend of African diplomatic missions actively collaborating with diaspora-led business organizations to promote trade, investment, and multilateral cooperation.
