Abuja, Nigeria —30 May 2025 – In a bold effort to reduce preventable deaths and promote wellness across Nigeria, HOPe Africa International, a United Nations ECOSOC member organization, has officially launched its Free Vital Signs Outreach Campaign. This campaign aims to provide free health screenings and vital signs monitoring to underserved communities across Nigeria—rotating through markets, churches, mosques, schools, traditional palaces, wards, workplaces, and events.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health, tens of thousands of Nigerians die each year due to lack of early detection of manageable conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory illnesses. Ignorance and absence of routine checkups remain a major public health challenge. HOPe Africa’s campaign is a timely, humane response to this crisis.

Vital Signs Services Offered and Their Advantages:

HOPe Africa’s free health screenings will include the following essential services, each delivering direct, life-saving benefits to participants:

  • Blood Pressure Monitoring – Early identification of hypertension can prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney damage.
  • Oxygen Saturation Testing – Detects silent hypoxia and ensures respiratory health, especially important post-COVID-19.
  • Blood Glucose Level Checks – Helps reveal pre-diabetic or diabetic conditions before complications arise.
  • Weight & Height Measurement – Used to assess growth, general health, and guide other screenings.
  • BMI Calculation – A fast and effective way to assess body composition and risk for metabolic conditions.

These screenings serve as first-level indicators for more serious conditions. All participants with elevated or abnormal readings will be referred immediately to the nearest health facility or general hospital for further diagnosis and treatment.

Engaging in these routine checks promotes wellness, saves lives, and fulfills the universal principle of loving your neighbor as yourself—being your brother’s keeper in action.
