NASARAWA, NIGERIA – May 27, 2024 – In a heartwarming display of compassion, Afrobeats sensation NYcee (KuliKuli Entertainment USA) and self-made entrepreneur Empress took to the streets of Ado and Mararaba, Nasarawa, distributing free fried bean cakes (Kosai) to hungry youths and passersby. The outreach, part of the Free #ProjectKosai initiative, aimed to combat Nigeria’s devastating food insecurity crisis, where 63% of citizens (133 million people) suffer multidimensional poverty (NBS 2022), and many struggle to afford even one meal a day.

Held on National Children’s Day, the event resonated deeply as beneficiaries—mostly unemployed youths and struggling families—expressed gratitude. Five impactful testimonies stood out:

  1. Amina Yusuf, a single mother of three, tearfully admitted it was her children’s first proper meal in days.
  2. Daniel Okafor, a street hawker, said the gesture “restored hope” after weeks of surviving on scraps.
  3. Hajia Fatima, an elderly widow, praised the team for “remembering the forgotten.”
  4. Emmanuel Tanko, a displaced farmer, called it “a miracle in these hard times.”
  5. Grace Andrew, a student, vowed to pay the kindness forward when she could.

The Harsh Reality: Why Free #ProjectKosai Matters

Nigeria’s economic crisis has spiraled, with:

  • Inflation at 33.7% (April 2024), eroding purchasing power.
  • Food inflation at 40.5%, pushing basics like beans and rice beyond reach.
  • Over 20 million children malnourished (UNICEF), with stunting rates at 37% in the North.

“Seeing parents skip meals so their kids can eat is heartbreaking,” said NYcee, who funded the outreach from personal savings. “If we don’t act now, starvation will claim more lives than conflict.”

Empress, whose beauty empire empowers women, added: “This isn’t about fame—it’s about humanity. A plate of Kosai can save a life today.”

How Free #ProjectKosai Works

The U.S.-backed initiative targets feeding 10 million Nigerians in 24 months through:

  • $1 = 1 Meal: Just $100 feeds 100 people (10 bean cakes each).
  • Partnerships: Traditional rulers, NGOs, and influencers like NYcee amplify reach.
  • Volunteer-Driven: Content creators, distributors, and donors are urgently needed.

HOPe Africa, the implementing NGO, reactivated its accounts to receive:

  • Online donations (website/bank transfers).
  • Food/goods (clothing, appliances for vulnerable households).
  • Ambassador perks: Donors get branded T-shirts and certificates.

A Call to Action

The duo pledged monthly contributions and challenged peers: “We’re proof that small acts create waves. Join us!” Free #ProjectKosai has already fed thousands during Ramadan and Lent, with Northern monarchs endorsing its scalability.
