Kaduna State Strengthens Security Architecture with Graduation of 1,000 Armed Forest Guards, Reinforcing Investor Confidence and Public Safety

KADUNA, Nigeria — August 1, 2026 — In a significant step toward enhancing public safety, strengthening national security, and fostering an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth, the Kaduna State Government has graduated more than 1,000 Armed Forest Guards following specialized security training conducted in partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Passing-Out Parade, held at the DSS Development Centre in Afaka, Kaduna, represents another milestone in Governor Senator Uba Sani’s comprehensive security reform agenda aimed at protecting lives, securing rural communities, restoring confidence, and supporting long-term investment across Kaduna State.

Strengthening Kaduna’s Multi-Layered Security Framework

According to Governor Uba Sani, the newly trained Armed Forest Guards will serve as strategic first responders within their respective communities, working alongside Nigeria’s conventional security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve surveillance capabilities, and deny terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups the opportunity to use forests as operational hideouts.

The Governor emphasized that the initiative reflects Kaduna State’s continued investment in proactive, intelligence-driven security strategies designed to prevent crime before it occurs while improving rapid response capabilities across vulnerable communities.

Specialized Training Enhances Operational Capacity

The 1,000 graduates were selected from the existing 7,000-member Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) after undergoing rigorous specialized security training.

Under the approved operational framework and rules of engagement, the Armed Forest Guards will receive enhanced operational equipment, including higher-grade firearms than those previously assigned to KADVS personnel, enabling them to better support lawful security operations alongside federal security agencies.

Because the personnel originate from their local communities, the government expects their extensive knowledge of the terrain, communities, and local dynamics to significantly improve intelligence collection, early threat detection, and coordinated security responses.

National Recognition for Kaduna’s Security Initiative

Governor Uba Sani noted that the representative of the Office of the National Security Adviser commended Kaduna State’s proactive leadership, revealing that Kaduna was the first Nigerian state to formally engage the Federal Government on the establishment, training, and deployment of Armed Forest Guards.

The representative further described Kaduna’s training programme as one of the country’s most successful state-led security capacity-building initiatives, underscoring the effectiveness of collaboration between federal and state institutions.

Expanding Security Capacity

Building on the success of the inaugural programme, Governor Uba Sani announced that Kaduna State has requested the training of an additional 1,000 Armed Forest Guards, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to continuously strengthening security infrastructure across the state.

The Governor expressed appreciation to:

  • President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
  • Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA)
  • Department of State Services (DSS)
  • Nigerian security agencies
  • Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS)

for their continued partnership in advancing peace, stability, and national security.

Security as a Foundation for Economic Development

Security remains one of the most important indicators considered by domestic and international investors when evaluating investment destinations.

The Kaduna State Government maintains that strengthening public safety creates the conditions necessary for:

  • Increased domestic and foreign direct investment (FDI)
  • Agricultural expansion
  • Mining sector development
  • Manufacturing growth
  • Infrastructure investment
  • Tourism development
  • Job creation
  • Community resilience
  • Sustainable economic growth

The administration reiterated that peace, security, and stability remain indispensable foundations for inclusive development and shared prosperity.

Governor Uba Sani congratulated the pioneer graduating class and acknowledged the sacrifices of their families, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to investing in intelligence-led security initiatives that protect citizens while supporting Kaduna State’s long-term economic transformation.
