HOPe Africa Launches Global “Light the Dark” Campaign to Power Rural Africa with Donated Solar Energy Systems

In an inspiring call for global compassion and collaboration, HOPe Africa (www.HOPeAfricaIntl.org) has launched the “Light the Dark” campaign — a worldwide appeal for donations of certified, gently used, overstocked, or new solar panels, lithium batteries, and complete rooftop installation kits to bring renewable power to rural communities across Africa that have been without electricity for decades.

Led by Dr. Francis John, Executive Director of HOPe Africa and recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, the initiative seeks to transform the living conditions of millions of families, students, and small businesses in underserved African communities where energy poverty remains a daily struggle.

“We believe light is not a privilege; it is a human right,” said Dr. John. “Electricity powers education, healthcare, and dignity. Every donated solar panel is a seed of hope that grows into a sustainable future.”

The organization is calling on manufacturers, distributors, investors, crowdfunding platforms, solar agents, and philanthropists around the world to support this mission — either through direct donations, funding partnerships, or logistical assistance.

HOPe Africa maintains pickup and drop-off centers in Kansas City, Missouri, and Atlanta, Georgia, for the collection of solar equipment ranging from 0.5kV to 5kV systems. Items will be inspected, repurposed, and shipped to energy-deprived communities in Africa where they can make immediate impact.

The campaign also seeks angel investors and philanthropic partners to help cover shipping, storage, and installation costs, ensuring 100% of donated items reach verified beneficiaries at no cost.

HOPe Africa, a registered U.S. nonprofit and member of the United Nations ECOSOC, has a 14-year track record of humanitarian service, including feeding programs, sanitary pad distribution, and educational support for millions of people across Africa.

“Our media platform is our donation,” Dr. John emphasized. “We use our voice to bring light — and to invite the world to join in the work of compassion.”
