THE KADUNA LEARNING CURVE: FROM POLITICAL LOSS TO RECONCILIATION, FROM RIVALRY TO PURPOSE (2)
FROM THE 2018 CONTROVERSY TO A NEW POLITICAL CHAPTER
The historical record deserves precision.
Senator Shehu Sani represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, not Kaduna North. Kaduna Central encompasses Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun, Igabi, Giwa, Kajuru and Birnin Gwari local government areas.
In 2018, Shehu Sani was at the centre of a major APC nomination controversy.
The APC national leadership initially granted him an automatic ticket for the Kaduna Central senatorial race. Uba Sani and others challenged the arrangement, and the controversy eventually produced a disputed primary.
Uba Sani was declared the winner of the subsequent APC primary with 2,088 votes, while contemporary reporting recorded 15 votes for Shehu Sani, who had not participated in the exercise. Shehu Sani rejected the process.
The political consequences were significant.
Uba Sani subsequently became senator for Kaduna Central in 2019.
Shehu Sani moved on.
And that is where the deeper lesson begins.
