“Mothers of Chibok” to Hit Cinemas in Nigeria and Ghana With Joke Silva as Executive Producer

Earlier actor, producer, and educator Amusing story Silva is lending her train and skills to the biggest story, becoming a member of the Nigerian documentary “Mothers of Chibok” as an Executive Producer ahead of its cinema starting up.

From 27 February, the documentary will launch up screening in cinemas all thru Nigeria and Ghana, allotted by FilmOne Entertainment. The rollout marks the widest theatrical starting up ever for a Nigerian-made documentary, bringing the story to audiences on a scale infrequently viewed for the vogue.

Directed by JoelKachiBenson, “Mothers of Chibok” centres on a group of girls folks who proceed to farm their land to pay for their children’s training, years after Boko Haram kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls from their group in 2014. In preference to focusing entirely on the tragedy, the film follows the mothers’ day-after-day lives, resilience, and resolution to retain going in the face of ongoing threats. It’s Benson’s 2d characteristic-length documentary.

Speaking about why she selected to beef up the film, Amusing story Silva stated:

After observing, I realised that we don’t each and once in a while utter these girls folks. We don’t realize what their recede has been. What Kachi has finished with this film is incredible. By hearing their voices and seeing their routines, we the target audience realize that the Chibok tragedy is set families, about training, about group. I couldn’t be extra tickled to beef up a filmmaker like Kachi, whose file of the endurance, resistance and resilience of the Mothers Of Chibok will make it more durable for future generations to neglect what took put to the girls and their families in 2014 and what continues to happen to them now.

FilmOne Entertainment is equally hooked in to bringing the documentary to the unparalleled conceal. Victoria Ogar, Head of Distribution at FilmOne Entertainment, shared:

We’re tickled to be bringing this highly effective and hopeful documentary to audiences all thru Nigeria and Ghana. We deem there would possibly maybe be a rising target audience for documentary storytelling in West Africa, and we’re angry for them to gaze Kachi’s refined film, which deserves to be viewed in a theatrical ambiance.

For Benson, the film is set shifting how the arena sees the girls folks of Chibok — beyond the headlines and the tragedy that first drew international attention.

We judge all people knows the girls folks of Chibok because all people knows their tragedy. But that tragedy is correct one piece of their story, the one the arena is like a flash to see. One cannot know the mothers of Chibok till you surely know the depth of their strength and resilience. My map is to utilize this film to relate a aspect to these heroines that the arena by no come sees: girls folks who remember stood, and proceed to stand as pillars in the Chibok group, comforting each and every other, upholding each and every other, and above all hoping and working together to make the next day to come better for their children.

“Mothers of Chibok” first premiered at DocNYC and has since travelled broadly, screening at dozens of international gala’s. It won the Encounters Al Jazeera Award for Simplest African Feature-Length Documentary on the Encounters Movie Pageant in South Africa. In 2025, Benson also made history as the principle Nigerian to receive a documentary Emmy for his debut characteristic “Madu,” now streaming on Disney+.

The film is produced by JB Multimedia Studios, Searching Lane, and Influence Partners, in association with Shark Island Productions, with a group of Nigerian and international producers and executive producers supporting the project.
