SaharaReporters had earlier reported that over 20 medical and dental college students and a Home Officer had been kidnapped in Benue Convey while en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental College students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.
The faculty students, from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, had been travelling together after they had been ambushed by gunmen around 5:30pm in the Otukpo situation of Benue Convey.
The Convey Police Divulge confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday morning, sparking concerns for the safety of the abducted college students.
Meanwhile, one in every of the victims has been identified as a Home Officer named Dr Louis.
An X legend that reports disorders in the medical discipline – @Nigerian_Doctor – who also shared the sure bet, appealed to security agencies for urgent intervention to rescue the faculty students and free the families from the trauma.
It wrote: “A Home Officer (Dr Louis) and 20+ Medical and Dental College students like reportedly been kidnapped!
“These college students, from University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, had been touring for his or her Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental College students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.
“They had been reportedly abducted somewhere in Benue Convey, no longer far from Otukpo, judging by their final known space.
“We plead on your urgent intervention.”
Confirming the incident to SaharaReporters, the spokesperson for the Benue Convey Police Divulge, SP Catherine Anene, acknowledged investigation had been launched into the kidnapping.
“Sure, the legend of kidnapping is handsome. The legend was once acquired around 5:30pm to 6:00pm and investigation is ongoing.”
