Some lives are remembered not merely by the years they encompass, but by the people they touch, the opportunities they create, the kindness they extend, and the positive memories they leave behind. The passing of Henrietta Kay (Schwartz) Miller on October 23, 2026, at the age of 83, represents such a loss. Her life was a remarkable story of family devotion, professional accomplishment, entrepreneurship, community involvement, and generosity.

HOPe Africa, together with the tenants and members of the ReSources Swift Street Shared Warehouse community, extends its heartfelt condolences to the Miller family, particularly her devoted husband, John Franklin Miller, their children, grandchildren, relatives, friends, and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

We received the sad news with profound sympathy through a thoughtful communication from Natalee Welch, Property Director at Stor Safe. Her October 23 message informed tenants of Henrietta’s passing and respectfully requested that, during this difficult period, communications requiring John Miller’s attention be directed through her so that the family could have the privacy and time needed to grieve. We sincerely appreciate Natalee’s consideration, professionalism, compassion, and continued communication with the warehouse community throughout this period.
As members of the wider Swift Street business and warehouse community, we recognized that this was more than the loss of a family member. It was the passing of someone whose life and contributions were closely connected to the businesses, relationships, and community institutions that many people around North Kansas City have come to know and appreciate.

According to her published obituary, Henrietta was born on March 18, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up with a strong appreciation for family, tradition, adventure, and creativity. Her early interests included ballet, tap dancing, and modeling, with appearances in television commercials and magazine advertisements, including campaigns for Pillsbury and Kellogg’s. She later attended William Woods College and the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she earned a degree in elementary education.
Her professional journey was equally noteworthy. Henrietta began her career with Southwestern Bell and rose into upper management at a time when women were still underrepresented in senior corporate leadership. After more than 30 years of service, she retired from AT&T in 1994. Retirement, however, did not mark the end of her productive years. Alongside her husband, John, she continued building businesses and contributing to the development of North Kansas City, including their involvement in Stor Safe Warehouses and iWerx.

Her marriage to John Franklin Miller, which began on September 10, 1966, was a partnership spanning six decades. Together, they raised their children, John Eldon Miller and Audra Kay Miller, built businesses, traveled, cultivated friendships, and supported causes that made a difference in their community. Their shared commitment to philanthropy extended to organizations supporting healthcare, education, public safety, animal welfare, and community development. Among the causes identified in her obituary were Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter, North Kansas City Hospital’s Cancer and Oncology Department, the TWA Museum, Boys Town, Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Salvation Army, Camp Fire Girls, Northland Christian School, and the North Kansas City Police Foundation.
This record of involvement offers an important reminder that meaningful success is not measured exclusively by professional achievement or business ownership. It is also reflected in the lives we support, the communities we strengthen, and the generosity we extend when others need help.

HOPe Africa was privileged to be represented at the Miller family’s Celebration of Life on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the iWerx Event Center in North Kansas City. It was a deeply moving and beautifully received gathering, bringing together family members, friends, business associates, neighbors, and well-wishers from different walks of life to pay their final respects and celebrate Henrietta’s life.
The atmosphere reflected both remembrance and gratitude. The venue was exceptionally well attended, with the gathering filling much of the available space. Cards, flowers, and thoughtful tributes added warmth and beauty to the occasion, visibly demonstrating the affection and esteem in which Henrietta and the Miller family are held. The reception was welcoming, and the arrangements, including the complimentary buffet, offered guests an opportunity to gather, reconnect, share memories, and extend support to the family.

Representing HOPe Africa, we were pleased to bring a modest token of condolence as an expression of our sincere sympathy and solidarity with the family. Despite the gathering being filled to capacity, John and Mrs. Miller graciously received us and kindly accommodated a photograph. Their warmth and hospitality, even amid such a significant family loss, were deeply appreciated. Although we could not remain until the conclusion of the event, we were grateful for the opportunity to join others in honoring Henrietta’s memory and conveying our condolences in person.
We also wish to recognize everyone who contributed to making the gathering meaningful, including those who traveled, attended, sent flowers and cards, offered prayers, shared comforting words, or supported the family in other thoughtful ways. Such gestures may appear simple, but during a period of bereavement, they communicate something profoundly important: the family is not alone, and the life of their loved one mattered to many people.

Our appreciation goes particularly to Natalee Welch for keeping tenants informed, providing the necessary arrangements and updates, and demonstrating consideration for the Miller family and the wider warehouse community. Her communication helped ensure that those who wished to express sympathy could do so with appropriate awareness and respect for the family’s circumstances.
To John Miller and the entire Miller family, please accept the collective sympathy and condolences of HOPe Africa and the Resources Swift Street Shared Warehouse community. We recognize that no words can fully remove the pain of losing a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Nevertheless, we hope the many expressions of love, the memories shared, and the remarkable testimonies surrounding Henrietta’s life will remain a source of comfort and encouragement in the days ahead.
May her children and grandchildren continue to draw inspiration from the values she demonstrated, the family traditions she nurtured, the businesses she helped build, and the generosity she extended to others. May the friendships she cultivated and the good works she supported continue to remind the community of a life that made a meaningful difference.

As an organization committed to service, partnership, and community impact, HOPe Africa believes that the most enduring legacy is one that continues to inspire kindness and positive action long after an individual has departed. Henrietta Miller’s life, as reflected in her family’s tribute and the many people who gathered to honor her, offers an example of the value of family, enterprise, community participation, and giving back.
We thank everyone who made the Celebration of Life a memorable and dignified tribute. We are grateful for the kindness extended to us and for the opportunity to stand with the Miller family during this important moment of remembrance.
May the Lord grant John, the children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends strength, peace, and lasting comfort. May Henrietta Kay Miller’s memory remain a blessing, and may the good she contributed to her family and community continue to speak for generations.
With deepest sympathy and respect,
